Sumer Term home Learning
This homework is for you to complete from now
until the end of the Summer term.
1. Build an imaginary island.
First plan / draw your ideas for an island.
Then create/ build your island.
The island could be a model or a collage.
Name the island. What physical and human features does it have? Maybe you could include a lighthouse, a pier or jetty, an airport or runway strip, hills/ mountains, rivers, bridge, roads, houses, shops, school, a park, a wood, farms, holiday resort or even different types of transport on the island.
Is it like Katie Morag’s island? How is it the same / different?
Take a photograph of your finished island and send in to homelearning@northcrescent.org
2. Travel brochure
Write a travel brochure to encourage visitors to come to your island.
What attractions does your island have? Where can visitors stay?
How do visitors get to your island? Could your travel brochure include pictures or photographs of different parts of your island?
You can use paper or the computer to make your travel brochure.
3. Island map
Draw a map of your island showing all of its features. Can you make a key for your map? ( e.g. different colours represent sea, land, mountains).
Have fun!
There are also some other homework ideas in the documents below.
Week 5 & 6
10/5/21 - 21/5/21
English
In English we are reading some of the Katie Morag stories which are based on the fictional island of Struay. Katie has lots of adventures in these stories and at school we are going to write our own innovated island story, perhaps you would like to write a story at home too. Don't forget to bring it in to show us or send in using the home learning email.
Maths
In Maths we are looking at problem solving and how we can answer a question using different strategies ( methods). Below are some questions if you would like to try some problem solving and some maths year 2 revision activity mats to consolidate maths learning.
Week 3 & 4
26/4/21 - 7/5/21
English
The children are looking at instruction writing. At home can the children look at different instructions e.g. recipes, game instructions, making instructions, planting seeds instructions etc.. What is the same? what is different? What instruction text features can they identify in these examples e.g. heading, sub headings, time connectives, imperative verbs( bossy verbs)
Can the children write their own instructions e.g. brushing their teeth , playing a game, etc.
Maths
The children have been working on position and direction. Finding routes by stepping forwards, backwards, left and right. Then the children looked at making turns clockwise and anticlockwise. For homework can the children practise their left and right and make a map (with squared paper) with directions worked out to get to different areas on the map. You can draw your own squared paper or download the treasure map from the link below.
Week beginning 12-4-21
Meerkats
In English the children are learning to write a non-chronological report about meerkats. For homework they have been asked to find out facts that they can use to help them to write their report.
