Autumn term 2020 return to school

20th July 2020

Dear Parents/ Carers,

Further to the letter from SEAMAT, we are delighted to now be preparing for a full return of both children and staff in September and are working hard to ensure that all goes smoothly and safely for everyone.  However this means that there will inevitably be some changes in the way our school operates.

What will children need to bring/wear

  • For the first half term, children should wear fresh, comfortable clothes every day- uniform is not expected but may be chosen. (no ties)
  • PE kit must be worn on PE days- no changing at school. You will received your PE day via text on September 3rd 2020.
  • Velcro Trainers/ shoes suitable for physical activities are preferred.
  • Spare clothes and knickers/ pants in case of accidents/ spillages.
  • Packed lunch, if not requesting a school packed lunch.
  • Usual coat if cold, or apply sun cream if hot weather predicted.
  • Full bottle of water, clearly labelled-our water fountains will not be in use so this is essential.
  • A book to read from home- we will be working towards providing school books once further guidance is released.
  • Each child will have their own work wallet at their work station- No pencil cases or equipment from home.
  • Medications needed at school must be clearly labelled and in a plastic bag if possible. Please organise delivery of these to the office, via telephone.

The start/end of the day

We would encourage walking/scooting/biking but ask that scooters and bikes be taken away and returned when collecting- they must not be left on site.

I appreciate that the staggered arrival and departure times may prove difficult for families with more than one child in school. All the classroom doors will be open at the same time of 8:40am and staff will be on standby in each class bubble so you can drop siblings to their class at the same time for your other child. For families in this situation, you may choose to drop off all your children at the earliest arrival time you have been allocated and collect at the latest. This may impact the time in school total- if you are happy for this to be the case. Staff will be in all of the classrooms at both ends of the day to supervise this.

  • One adult enter with their child/ children via the Hyde Way gate at the allocated time-please adhere to social distancing and encourage children to do the same.
  • Children will be admitted one at a time by a supervising member of staff- this will need to be timely to ensure no backlog so please arrive on time.
  • Once your child has been dropped at the red gate please exit through the other side of the playground and exit through the North Crescent gate.
  • Once again, please arrive on time and do not stop on the school site to chat to other families, as the staggered entrance/exit has only a 10 minute gap in most cases.
  • Collecting your children will be organised in the same way. Please enter via Hyde Way at your allocated time, the children in that class will be waiting on the playground to be collected. Please move to the other playground gate and exit through the North Crescent gate.
  • If you need to combine your times as you have more than one child at our school then please ensure that the Google Form is completed so that staff can have your child ready at the correct time. (link to be sent out by Friday 4th September)

Access to the school

  • There will be no admittance to any other adults inside the school building. If you need to give in medication then please arrange this via email/telephone prior to dropping off and collecting.
  • All enquiries should be made via email
  • Our phones lines will be open as usual from Wednesday 3rd September-8.30am-4.00pm
  • To pay for a packed lunch, please use parent pay.
  • We will continue to communicate with families via email, text and web notification.

Who can attend school?

  • Children cannot attend if they, or a family member they live with, have symptoms of Covid-19 and will be required to self-isolate for 7 days before returning.
  • Any children who are ‘extremely clinically vulnerable’ should seek advice from their GP.
  • The children will be in the same group of children- their class bubble; they will not mix with other children in the school at breaks or lunchtimes.

Cleaning/health and safety

  • We will continue to promote good hygiene in school and encourage both the children and staff to regularly wash their hands with soap and water.
  • Our cleaning team will be carrying out cleaning before and after school, focusing on contact areas such as handles, desk, chairs etc.
  • Doors will be retained where possible and cleaning of the per bubble allocated toilets/ sink areas will be rigorous.
  • There is no expectation that staff will routinely wear face coverings, however staff may choose to wear PPE in specific circumstances.
  • All soft furnishings, cushions and unnecessary items will be removed from the classrooms.
  • Each bubble will have their own cleaning station and appropriate PPE/ equipment.

  • Classrooms will be organised to ensure that children are not seated face to face and spaced as far apart as possible.
  • Each group will work with the same staff members where possible to minimise mixing- including PPA staff.  Classes which contain children, who require additional support, may have an extra adult.

Lunch and break times

  • Break and lunch times take place with each bubble with the same adults.
  • Cold school lunches are being served for the first 2 weeks and are then being reviewed. You may choose to send your child with their own named packed lunch.
  • Children will eat their lunches in the classroom and will then go out to play in their designated area.
  • Please send your child with named water bottles.

Breakfast club/Clubs

  • Under current guidelines we are unable to offer this provision due to bubble mixing regulations. This will be reviewed regularly as we are keen to get these up and running as soon as possible.

All being well and good, all children will return at their set time on Monday 7th September, with our new Explorers joining on 14th September. If anything changes, you will be notified nearer to the start date.

We are so looking forward to seeing you all again and being with your children.

I wish you all a safe and happy holiday!

Yours sincerely,

Annie Griffin
