02.06.20 DIY LAVA LAMP!!

This is what you need
Measurements 1 Cup oil
1/4 Cup vinegar
1-4 drops of food dye
1 tsp of baking soda
1 tsp of Water

Science this term we were supposed to start looking at Living Things and their habitats. Below is a video about classification. Can you discover the different classification and how you know? Or pick an animal and tell me about their classification.

Experiment number 2!

Storm in a Glass

Equipment

  • Shaving cream
  • A large glass
  • water
  • Food coloring
  • A spoon

Instructions:

  1. Fill the glass 1/2 full with water
  2. Spray some shaving cream on top of the water to fill the glass to ¾ full.
  3. Use your finger or a spoon to spread the shaving cream evenly over the top of the water. The top of the shaving cream should be flat.
  4. Mix ½-cup water with 10 drops of food coloring in a separate container. Gently add the colored water, spoonful by spoonful, to the top of the shaving cream. When it gets too heavy, watch it storm!

Here is an experiment for you to try at home. I will also try it and post my results! 

Fireworks in a glass!  

Method

  1. Fill the tall glass with water.
  2. Pour a small amount of oil into another container and add a few drops of food colouring.
  3. Give it a good stir, if it doesn’t mix, add a bit of water.
  4. Pour the food colouring and oil mixture into the warm water and watch the fireworks!

I have uploaded a sheet for you to record the experiment (if you cant print then use this and help and write your own.)   I have also uploaded a helpsheet to make sure you understand what each title means. There is also an upload of what should happen but try not to click that until you have written YOUR predictions we know Mr Baker experiments can be like!  Have fun and I'll upload my video soon!

Mrs S gave it ago, This is what she said:- ' I Had a go and tried two colours. Worked quite well. Discovered that it speeds up a little with a dash of washing up liquid'
