Internet Safety Day 11.2.20
Year 5 spent the day deciding what they feel the internet should be like for them as children. The main message we decided upon was safe yet fun. We talked about ways to give advice to others in maintaining these values by designing posters which are now up in our computer suite.
During our second session we looked at different social media platforms, including Facebook, Youtube, Whatsapp, Instagram and Snapchat.
We read the rough the terms and conditions of use for each platform and we were surprised to find out the age to use each of these is 13. We also discovered just how much the apps do with personal data. They can share your name, date of birth and email addresses with other companies. Some even monitor phone calls, which really shocked us!
We not have a much clearer view of these popular apps and how we can keep ourselves safe if we ever use them.
E Safety Lesson 11.9.19
Year 5 had an interesting discussion about how to be safe online on Wednesday. We talked about only having friends on games such as Roblox and Fortnite and that we should only be talking to those online who we would know in reality.
We also discussed the recommended age for games and social media apps. Lots of the children said they had accounts on Snapchat, Whatsapp and Instagram and were quite surprised by the age being 13+ for such apps. But we still talked about how to be safe when using them and including our parents if something occurs that we are not comfortable with.
Class 5 were very knowledgeable about what to do if something pops up that is inappropriate, or if someone is being unkind online. We speak to an adult straight away who will report and flag the issue.
Well done Class 5!
